Public Information Guidelines
Cooperation with the Professional Community Guidelines
Committee Mission:
- Carrying information about AA into the
community.
- Informing the public when and where
meetings are.
- Educating people about what AA is and isn’t.
- PI is NOT Advertising.
i.
PI does not recruit or make a call to action.
ii.
We do not want AA to be the best kept
secret.
iii.
Want to let people who want to stop drinking
know how to get in touch with AA
and where to go for meetings.
- PI is NOT a violation of Anonymity.
i.
Anonymity refers to the individual
preserving his or her identity at the level of press, radio, TV, film, and
electronic media.
ii.
It is NOT a violation of anonymity to inform
the public when and where AA meetings are and what AA does and does not do.
- Carry the message to professionals who
work with or come in contact with alcoholics.
- We carry information about AA to
doctors, nurses, clergy and other professionals.
- These people are able to carry the
message of AA to suffering alcoholics that we may never be able to reach.
- Inform the AA community what PICPC is and what
activities the PICPC committee is performing.

Service Opportunities:
Anyone interested in participating in this committee, please attend the monthly meeting. PICPC Committee suggests that the groups find ways to serve their own communities by getting information out about meeting times and places into the community. For example, asking owners/managers of hotels, laundry mats or schools if your group can place our meeting schedules and literature in their businesses. Usually there is a bulletin board or a rack of pamphlets at these places. We try to put information about AA anyplace where there might be an alcoholic who needs our message.
When it comes to speaking engagements, we prefer for those requests to be handled by the committee. There are people on the committee who have been trained and have experience speaking to schools, probation officers, doctors and lawyers.
